Company to add 275 jobs in Duluth

DULUTH -- Leaders broke ground Tuesday on an expanded home for a major satellite corporation in Duluth.

ViaSat Inc. is anticipating accomodating 275 new jobs over the next decade in the new 60,000-square foot, build-to-suit facility at 1725 Breckinridge Plaza, a press release from the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce said.

"The availability of a highly skilled workforce makes Gwinnett an ideal location in which to grow," ViaSat spokesman Bruce Rowe said in the release. "We're benefitting from the great location and economic strength of this community, and we look forward to future expansions in Gwinnett."

The company, which produces satellite and other digital communication products for government and commercial customers, has doubled in size and revenue over the past eight years, the release said. Its Duluth campus is the second largest location in the nation, following its California headquarter.

"Georgia has become a hotbed for companies engaged in digital communications and other advanced technologies," said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. "Our immense and growing base of knowledge workers not only attracts new industry, but encourages innovative companies like ViaSat to stay and expand here."

Gwinnett Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said the growth in jobs is something to celebrate.

"ViaSat's decision to expand its operations here speaks volumes to the favorable business environment and robust quality of life offered in Gwinnett County," Nash said in the release.

Know some one who works there. Said that many will be retiring and leaving. some of the new hires will be taking their positions. Wonder how many net jobs will be gained?
