ATLANTA — Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has asked Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank to reduce the amount of money taxpayers would be asked to contribute to a proposed $1 billion stadium.
Plans for the new, retractable-roof stadium initially included a $300 million public contribution derived from hotel-motel tax revenues. It was reported that Deal has asked Blank to lower his request for public funding to $200 million.
In December, the franchise and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority agreed on terms surrounding the proposed stadium. Since then, Falcons representatives and state officials have been negotiating details of the proposal and are working toward settling on a final financing arrangement.
The proposal for the new stadium calls for demolishing the Georgia Dome, which was built in 1992.

Why do we need a new stadiun that is only 21 years old? Only because the NFL says so. Let them build it. The current one is probably not paid for yet.

The Atlanta Braves moved into a new stadium after they won a world series. Let's treat the Falcons the same. If you want to say that the Olympics subsidized it, then let's wait until the next Olympics to pay for a new Falcons stadium. I will add this. Gwinnett has been exporting illegals. However, the LEGAL immigrants who love soccer will spend money on the new dome if they bring in soccer.

BOC there have been rumblings that Gwinnett is considered as a possible alternate site...
It’s real easy to dispel, just offer a resolution that as a FULLY private enterprise the Falcons would be welcome here.
However, there would be no public "partnership" developing such a facility where ANY tax dollars or government assets are used.

I disagree. There will be a need to improve roads, storm drainage, and sewer to a new facility. Some public dollars will be needed and justifiably so.
