GRAYSON -- Three major road and beautification projects are coming to Grayson, as the City Council voted Tuesday night to advertise for bids next week.
At the regular council meeting, the panel agreed to bid out projects for the Ga. Highway 20 median landscaping, the Streetscape grant and resurfacing of Brannan Boulevard.
"We are trying to bid all of these projects together, so we can do them at the same time," City Planner Steve Sappington said. "All three of these projects kind of need to mesh together."
Sappington said there probably will be three winning bidders, and that companies bidding on the projects must be "pre-qualified" by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
All of the bids must be submitted by March 1.
The Streetscape grant is the more complex of the projects, he said, and will require a higher bid, probably in the $350,000 to $400,000 range. This project will be paid by 80/20 (DOT/Grayson) funds. There will be an optional pre-bid meeting for potential bidders at City Hall on Feb. 6.
The Council also agreed to appoint Laura Gavulic, who works in Human Resources for the Southern Company, to succeed Councilman James Gillespie on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.In other business, the council:-- Adopted PPI's professional design services proposal for the City Park's Master Plan, which will include an addition to City Hall, new senior center, parking, and an amphitheater.
-- Discussed plans for the upcoming Grayson Day on April 27. Council Member Allison Rooks said this year's theme will be "We grow great by our dreams."
