PREP ROUNDUP: Central girls hold on to top Archer

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer trailed by seven points with two minutes left to play and made a late charge, but Central Gwinnett was able to keep the Tigers at bay as the Black Knights held on for a 44-43 win in Region 8-AAAAAA girls basketball.

Carol Reynolds led Central (13-6, 7-4) with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Keisha Washington and Alexandra Frazier each scored 10. Frazier also had 10 rebounds, while Washington grabbed five. Jackie Finnegan also played a big role for Central with a strong defensive effort and six points in the fourth quarter.

Archer (15-6, 9-3) was led by a game-high 26 points from Madison Newby. Newby also had three assists and three steals, while Alesha Mann added eight points and five rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 79, Dacula 20

LILBURN -- Parkview had 10 players make the scoring column on Tuesday night as the Panthers rolled to a 79-20 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Vickie Harris was the top scorer for the Panthers (20-0, 11-0) with 19 points. Makenna Pouengue followed with 15 points, while Genesis Perrymond finished with 14 points.

Dacula fell to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in the region.

Peachtree Ridge 53, Grayson 38

LOGANVILLE -- Melissa Turvy of Peachtree Ridge led all players with 22 points on Tuesday night as the Lions defeated Grayson 53-38 in a non-region game.

Lorrie Cruse also had 11 points and seven rebounds for Peachtree Ridge (8-11, 3-8). Grayson dropped to 3-15 overall while staying 1-10 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Norcross 45, Mountain View 30

NORCROSS -- Norcross topped Mountain View 45-30 on Tuesday night for a Region 7-AAAAAA win.

Shayla Cooper logged 14 points and six rebounds to lead Norcross (15-4, 9-1), while Bri Williams added eight points, six steals, five assists and five rebounds. Norcross also received offensive contributions from seven other players.

The loss dropped Mountain View to 13-6 overall and 5-6 in region play.

North 79, Meadowcreek 25

SUWANEE -- Lexie Brown of North Gwinnett led all players with 20 points on Tuesday night as the Bulldogs rolled past Meadowcreek 79-25 in Region 7-AAAAAA. Brown flirted with a triple-double as she also had 11 assists and seven steals.

Alyssa Munlyn added a double-double for North (18-0, 11-0) with 14 points and 10 boards. Three other Bulldogs hit double figures in points, with 12 from Baylee Rexing and 10 each from Stephanie Amichia and Peyton Whitted.

Meadowcreek fell to 4-16 overall and 1-11 in region play.

Duluth 60, Collins Hill 32

SUWANEE -- Duluth upped its record to 14-6 overall and 8-3 in Region 7-AAAAAA on Tuesday night as the Wildcats topped Collins Hill 60-32.

Duluth had 11 players score, led by a 23-point night from Katie Powell.

Collins Hill (6-14, 2-10) was led by 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals from Brittany Stowers and eight points and eight rebounds from Julianne Bayer.

Habersham 61, Mill Creek 53

MOUNT AIRY -- Nadiya Miller of Mill Creek logged 21 points, three steals and three assists, but the Hawks fell short, losing 61-53 at Habersham Central on Tuesday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Meredith Schulte added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks (11-10, 7-5). Paige Orangio also finished with five points and four assists, while Kathleen Haxton added seven points and four rebounds.

Habersham improved to 13-7 overall and 5-7 in the region.

Lanier 52, Lumpkin Co, 32

SUGAR HILL -- Amber Cesair scored 14 points on Tuesday night as part of Lanier's 52-32 win over Lumpkin County. The win boosted Lanier to 7-13 overall and 3-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

Shelby Threlkeld added 12 points for the Longhorns, while Lauren Brown followed with 11 points.

Buford 66, Banks Co. 24

HOMER -- Buford had no trouble on Tuesday night as the Wolves routed Banks County 66-24 in Region 7-AAA.

Kaela Davis scored 24 to lead Buford (14-3, 9-0), while Kristina Nelson added 10 points. The win was the eighth in a row for Buford.

Wesleyan 88, Westminster 28

ATLANTA -- Wesleyan improved to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in Region 6-AA on Tuesday night with an 88-28 thrashing of Westminster.

Katie Frerking led the Wolves with 15 points, while Nikki McDonald added 10 points.

Providence 33, Lakeview 31

GAINESVILLE -- Aubrey Gold of Providence scored in the final minute to tie the score at 31-31 and then hit a bucket right before the buzzer to lift the Storm 33-31 over Lakeview Academy on Tuesday night.

Gold finished with five points, while Jessie Kowalewicz led Providence with 10 points. Providence improved to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in Region 8-A.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Dacula 63, Parkview 49

LILBURN -- Brandon Goodson of Dacula played in his 100th varsity game on Tuesday night and scored his 1,000th career point in helping the Falcons top Parkview 63-49.

Goodson finished with 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while Deion Hewitt chipped in with 12 points. Dacula improved to 14-6 overall and 7-5 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Malik Abraham led Parkview (2-18, 0-11) with 17 points.

Archer 55, Central 53

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Shaun Jones of Central Gwinnett had a huge night with 30 points, but Archer managed to escape with a 55-53 win in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Nafis Floyd led the attack for Archer (17-4, 10-2) with 16 points. Randall Smith and Kelvin Nwanze also helped with 10 points each for the Tigers.

Central dropped to 9-11 overall and 3-8 in the region.

Mill Creek 50, Habersham 33

MOUNT AIRY -- Trevon Shaw became the first Mill Creek boys player to score 1,000 points in his career on Tuesday night in the Hawks' 50-33 win over Habersham Central.

Shaw who came into the game with 994 points, finished with 17 to lead Mill Creek (15-6, 8-4), while Elijah Bryant led the team in assists with eight.

The loss dropped Habersham to 4-16 overall and 1-11 in the region.

North 64, Meadowcreek 57

SUWANEE -- T.J. Howard of North Gwinnett led all players with 20 points on Tuesday night as the Bulldogs held off Meadowcreek 64-57 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Three other Bulldogs (15-5, 9-2) also scored in double figures, with 14 each from Owen Lewis and Kam Calhoun and 12 points from Ahmad Caver.

Meadowcreek fell to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in region play.

Collins Hill 60, Duluth 43

SUWANEE -- Collins Hill improved to 14-7 overall and 8-4 in Region 7-AAAAAA with a 60-43 win over Duluth on Tuesday night.

Johncarlos Reyes had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks to lead the Eagles. Devin Mitchell helped with 14 points, while Darius Joell scored 10.

Duluth (11-9, 3-8) was led by 17 points from Shamus Goss.

Lanier 83, Lumpkin Co. 37

SUGAR HILL -- Lanier led 52-13 at the half and cruised the rest of the way as the Longhorns coasted to an 83-37 win over Lumpkin Co. in Region 8-AAAA.

Five Longhorns (12-9, 3-1) scored in double figures, led by 14 points and seven assists from Jordan Harper. Peyton Smith followed with 13 points, while Jordan Davis added 13 points and six assists. Paul Webb chipped in with 12 points, while Simon Shafack scored 10.

Buford 81, Banks Co. 49

HOMER -- A.J. Davis of Buford scored 18 points, while Kyle Doyle added 15 more on Tuesday night as the Wolves romped their way 81-49 over Banks County in region 7-AAA.

Parker Stephenson added 11 points for the Wolves (15-5, 9-0), while Matt McMorris finished with 10 points. Buford has now won 10 straight.

Westminster 39, Wesleyan 35

ATLANTA -- Will Clifton of Wesleyan scored 25 points on Tuesday night but the rest of the team managed just 10 points as the Wolves fell 39-35 at Westminster.

The loss put Wesleyan at 9-10 overall and 2-2 in Region 6-AA.

Providence 72, Lakeview 65

GAINESVILLE -- Connor Jones of Providence logged 19 points and seven rebounds Tuesday night in leading the Storm 72-65 over Lakeview Academy.

Charlie Scott added 17 points for Providence, while Robbie Clark finished with 12 points. Providence improved to 7-10 overall while staying 4-2 in subregion 8B-A.
