PREP ROUNDUP: Grayson boys edge South 52-49

SNELLVILLE -- The Grayson defense held South Gwinnett to 16 points in the second half as the Rams clipped the Comets 52-49 on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA.

The game was tied at 49-49 in the final minute when Austin Morris put Grayson up with a 3-pointer. South then had a chance to tie but came up short when Damian Young blocked the 3-point attempt.

Pierre Mason led the Rams (10-9, 4-7) with 14 points, while Marquise Bumpas added seven points and seven rebounds.

South fell to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the region.

BOYS BASKETBALL

North 51, Habersham 41

SUWANEE -- T.J Howard of North Gwinnett led all scorers with 18 points on Friday night as the Bulldogs downed Habersham Central 51-41.

Malik Carter added nine rebounds and eight points as North improved to 14-4 overall and 8-2 in the region. Habersham fell to 4-15 overall and 1-10 in region play.

Meadowcreek 76, Mt. View 57

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Meadowcreek used an offensive burst in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 76-57 win over Mountain View in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Austin Robinson led Meadowcreek (6-12, 4-7) with 13 points.

Mountain View (2-16, 0-10) was led by 13 points from Will Hartter.

Central 55, Dacula 50

DACULA -- Central Gwinnett improved to 9-10 overall and 3-7 in Region 8-AAAAAA on Friday night with a 55-50 win over Dacula.

Shaun Jones scored 16 to lead Central, while Eman Westmoreland followed with 11 points. Brian Egejuru also chipped in with 10 points.

Dacula (12-6, 6-5) had three score in double figures, led by 14 from Cameron Lewis. Brandon Goodson finished with 13, while Jaylen Williams scored 10.

GAC 83, Lovett 31

ATLANTA -- Greater Atlanta Christian routed Lovett 83-31 on Friday in Region 6-AA action.

The win pushed GAC to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the region.

Providence 58, Pinecrest 46

LILBURN -- Providence defeated Pinecrest Academy 58-46 on Friday night to win its homecoming game.

Steven Kleinschmidt posted 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Storm (6-10, 5-1), while Charlie Scott helped with 11 points.

Hebron 75, Towns Co. 35

DACULA -- Hebron found its offensive stroke on Friday night as the Lions routed Towns County 75-35 in Region 8-A.

Four Lions (6-12, 3-4) scored in double figures, led by 14 from Cory Johnson. Tyler Skidgel followed with 12 points. Ryan Thomas and Derek Vandiver each scored 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Central 53, Dacula 40

DACULA -- Alexandra Frazier logged 16 points, six rebounds and three assists on Friday night in leading Central Gwinnett to a 53-40 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Central (12-6, 6-4) also received 15 points from Jackie Finnegan and 10 points and eight rebounds from Carol Reynolds.Dacula, which fell to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the region, was led by 15 points and 13 rebounds from Faustine Aifuwa. Brittany Johnson also finished with eight points for the Falcons.

South 46, Grayson 34

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett outlasted Grayson 46-34 on Friday night for a win in Region 8-AAAAAA play.

Arielle Harvey led the Comets (12-8, 7-4) with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jashawna Johnson added 11 points.

Jessica Ewing led Grayson (4-14, 1-10) with nine points and eight rebounds, while Shakara Burton finished with eight points, seven rebounds and five steals.

North 76, Habersham 27

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett had four players score in double figures, led by 20 from Joshlyn Belcher, as the Bulldogs ran to a 76-27 win over Habersham Central on Friday night.

Lexie Brown added 13 points and 10 assists, while Peyton Whitted and Keniesha Wilborn each finished with 11 points. Stephanie Amichia also finished with eight points and eight rebounds as North improved to 17-0 overall and 10-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Habersham fell to 12-7 overall and 4-7 in the region.

Mt. View 75, Meadowcreek 32

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Kelsey Hutchins of Mountain View set a career high with 27 points on Friday night as the Bears rolled to a 75-32 win over Meadowcreek in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Jordan Stallworth added 11 points for the Bears (13-5, 5-5), while Iceis Walker chipped in with 10 points.

Meadowcreek (4-14, 1-10) was led by Courtney Fields' 12 points.

Lanier 55, Johnson 21

GAINESVILLE -- Lanier used a strong defensive effort on Friday night to down Johnson 55-21 in a Region 8-AAAA game.

The Longhorns were led by 16 points each from Shelby Threlkeld and Tamar Osborne. The win bumped Lanier to 6-13 overall and 2-1 in the region.

GAC 63, Lovett 32

ATLANTA -- Brianna Cummings scored 17 points Friday night as Greater Atlanta Christian upended Lovett 63-32 in Region 6-AA.

Other standouts for the Spartans (15-2, 3-1) were Sydni Means (11 points, 10 assists), CiiCii Buford (14 points, five steals), Cosette Mahre (nine points, seven rebounds) and Jasmine Hill (eight points).

GAC led 20-10 after the first quarter and took control in the second period by outscoring Lovett 14-2.

Towns Co. 56, Hebron 39

DACULA -- Hebron's Amber Skidgel scored 19 points on Friday, but the Lions needed more support as Towns County topped Hebron 56-39 in Region 8-A.

Ashleigh Stanley added nine points for Hebron (7-11, 3-4).

Providence 60, Pinecrest 34

LILBURN -- Jessie Kowalewicz of Providence led all players in scoring with 22 on Friday night in guiding the Storm 60-34 over Pinecrest Academy.

Aubrey Gold added 12 points as Providence rose to 10-6.

WRESTLING

Berkmar sweeps through Wesleyan, Duluth

NORCROSS -- Led by three unbeaten wrestlers, Berkmar swept though Wesleyan 39-34 and Duluth 39-30 in a wrestling tri-meet Thursday at Wesleyan.

Nick Luu (106-pounds), Alessandro Arajuo (113) and Jose Acosta (220) all went 2-0.
