RINCON — Authorities in Effingham County say a teen that died in a car accident drowned after being ejected from the vehicle.
The Savannah Morning News reports 18-year-old Christian Cowan, of Rincon, was found face down in a ditch filled with standing water after an accident Wednesday night on Rincon-Stillwell Road.
Cowan was pronounced dead on the scene and authorities Thursday said his cause of death was drowning. Officials say the teen was not wearing a seatbelt.
Travis Williams, another 18-year-old from Rincon, was injured in the crash and is hospitalized at Memorial University Medical Center. He was found on the side of the road and authorities are unsure of whether he was also ejected.
The cause of the accident is unclear and authorities are unsure of which teen was driving.
