ATLANTA — Fulton County District Attorney's officials say a woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the death of a 16-month-old boy.
District Attorney's spokeswoman Yvette Jones says 48-year-old Mary Spence has been convicted of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and child cruelty.
Authorities say Spence shook a 16-month-old boy she was babysitting in April 2011 and threw him against a hard surface because he was crying. Authorities say the boy suffered a fractured skull and massive scalp hemorrhaging and his injuries were consistent with the force of falling from a second-floor window onto a concrete sidewalk.
Officials say Spence pleaded guilty in 2005 to child cruelty in Florida. The woman was put on probation and was in violation of probation when she was arrested in Georgia.
