ATLANTA — Georgia labor officials say the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has risen slightly to 8.6 percent.
The December figure is up one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.5 percent in November. The rate was 9.4 percent in December a year ago.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler released the new numbers Thursday morning. He said a combination of factors led to the increase. They include what he called a modest increase in new layoffs, along with a small job loss driven primarily by seasonal layoffs in education.
Despite the increase, Butler said it was the best November-to-December job market report since 2007.

This had to happen, The holidays are over. I am sure the Federal rate has jumped also, that is, if they would stop lying about it and give us the real rate.

Are you jumping for joy yet Kevin? Maybe it will be back up to 9% next month and you can go out and celebrate. Of course if it happens to drop again it will only be because someone "cooked the books."

Why would anyone celebrate the fact that more of the folks don't have jobs? What a negative comment.
