Searching For Sugar Man Blu-ray (PG-13)
Movie: 4 out of 4 stars
Disc: 3 and 1/2 out of 4 stars
Not only the best documentary of 2012, "Searching for Sugar Man" is one of the finest looking such films ever produced. Mixing archival photography, animation, dramatic recreation and live action, the movie chronicles the career of Sexto Rodriguez, a Detroit-born singer/songwriter who released just two poor-selling albums in the early '70s and quickly faded into obscurity. Thanks to heavy word of mouth, Rodriguez (think Dylan with a great voice and a better knack for melody) became a mythical troubadour and musical icon in South Africa. Playing out like a taut mystery thriller, the movie delivers one of the most inspirational and heartwarming last acts imaginable.
