SUWANEE -- In a unanimous vote Thursday night, the Gwinnett County Board of Education nominated a new chairman for the 2013 year.
Carole Boyce, the newly elected chair, accepted her peers' nomination during the monthly regular meeting.
But first she thanked the previous chairman, Louise Radloff for her service to the school board and her "many roles." An audience of about 100 stood to applaud Radloff, who has served on the school board for 40 consecutive years.
Boyce said she has "big shoes to fill. I don't think anyone could do a finer job than what Mrs. Radloff has done. We certainly continue to appreciate your leadership. Thank you so much."
Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks said it is "customary at the first of the year to elect its chairman."
In addition, the board nominated Dan Seckinger as vice chairman for 2013. Boyce previously served as vice chairman.
Boyce's district includes all or part of the Archer, Brookwood, Central Gwinnett, Dacula, Grayson, Mill Creek, Mountain View, and South Gwinnett clusters, in addition to Hooper Renwick and Oakland Meadow School. She is the mother of six children. Re-elected in November 2012, her term expires December 2016.

Quote:" I don't think anyone could do a finer job than what Mrs. Radloff has done."
Does this mean Ms. Boyce won't do any better for the school system?

Louise has been a tireless advocate for kids and Gwinnett schools for 40 years. The voters in her district know this as well. Thats why they have put their trust in her thru the years and will probably continue to do so as long as she is willing to serve on the board.
