Robert Edward Spragg born on December 19, 1927 in Washington, Pa. was called home on January 14, 2013. Born to Albert Spragg and Hazel (Richmond) Spragg, raised in the home of his grandparents, Richard and Elizabeth Spragg. He graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, Pa., served in the Navy during WWII, returned home and earned his degree at Penn State University. He began his career at Bell Telephone Company where he met the love of his life, Joan Murtaugh, to whom he was wed for 56 years before her death in December of 2011. He retired after a successful 30 yr. career at The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1983. In retirement, he worked as a Marshall and Starter at the Stone Mountain Golf Club and devoted much of his time to the service of others. He volunteered at the Salvation Army, Atlanta Mission, PRISM, Shepherd’s Staff, and through his home church of Loganville First United Methodist. He was a long standing supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. His life was defined by devotion to faith, love for his family and care and concern for his fellow man. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Albert Spragg and Hazel Briggs, his sisters, Margaret Volter and Betty Jacobs, his wife, Joan Spragg, daughters Christine Spragg and Mary Spragg. He is survived by his sister Mildred Pacilla, son Greg Spragg and his wife Dawn, daughters: Valerie Simpson, Laura Spragg and Julie Spragg, 7 grandchildren: Lauren, Ryan and Davis Spragg, Erica McMillan, Alex, Will and Jack Simpson and 2 great-grandchildren: Mason Hollums and Ava Graham. A Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Robert Spragg will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10AM at Loganville First United Methodist Church with Pastor David Gravitt and Rev. Dawn Spragg officiating. Interment will follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6PM until 8PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel.
