WINDER -- Barrow County Sheriff's deputies and S.W.A.T. personnel responded to a residence on Monday after a woman said a man with a gun had made threats toward himself and her.
Jesse Plunkett, 32, of Winder barricaded himself in the home on Rosebud Lane and refused to surrender to deputies, Barrow County Sheriff's Office Lt. Matt Guthas said. After SWAT personnel arrived, a standoff ensued for more than 11 hours, which included unsuccessful negotiation attempts.
After investigators obtained a search warrant for the house, they used tear gas to try to get Plunkett out of the house.
SWAT personnel eventually entered the house and found Plunkett, who was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Guthas said.
Guthas said Barrow deputies requested an independent follow up investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is under way.
