Olson to be honored by Braves

ATLANTA -- Former Parkview baseball standout Matt Olson will be honored by the Atlanta Braves 400 Club during its annual winger banquet and fundraiser Jan. 26 at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center in Dunwoody.

The two-time Daily Post Player of the Year, who was selected by the Oakland A's with the 47th overall pick in the last summer's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, will receive the club's 2012 Metro Atlanta Player of the Year award during the 47th Annual Eddie Glennon Gameboree event.

Olson, who helped the Panthers to the last two Class AAAAA state championships and hit .282 with nine home runs and 45 RBIs in 50 minor-league games after signing with Oakland last summer, will be one of several amateurs honored on a night when the Braves will also honor recently-retired third baseman Chipper Jones.

A gala reception, silent auction and raffle of Braves memorabilia will begin the evening at 5 p.m., with the awards ceremony following at 6:30.

Tickets are $75 for Braves 400 Club members and $80 for non-members and will be taken by advance reservations until Jan. 20.

Reservations for the evening can be made by visiting the club's website at www.braves400.org.

Pugh, who was named to the Daily Post's second-team All-County team after going 10-1 with a 1.86 ERA and 84 strikeouts, will sign with Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.

Hudson, who hit .314 for Mill Creek last season, will sign with Darton Junior College in Albany.
