Three players reached a milestone on Friday night as Melissa Turvy of Peachtree Ridge, Katie Powell of Duluth and Peyton Whitted of North Gwinnett each eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for their prep career.
Turvy went in to Friday's game at Habersham Central needing just five points to become the first Peachtree Ridge girl to reach 1,000 points and had no problem as she finished with 20 points. The Lions (6-10, 2-7) came up short, however, as Habersham held on to win 59-46. Lorrie Cruse added nine points for the Lions.
North remained unbeaten with a 66-25 win over Mountain View as Whitted led North (14-0, 8-0) with 18 points in reaching 1,000 points.
Three other Bulldogs finished with solid games in Lexie Brown (14 points), Stephanie Amichia (12 points, 13 rebounds) and Baylee Rexing (10 points).
Mountain View (11-5, 4-5) was led by seven points each from Jordan Stallworth and Iceis Walker.
Powell, a junior at Duluth, became the third player in reaching 1,000 points as she scored 14 in leading the Wildcats 63-27 over Lanier, making it to the four-figure mark early in the third quarter. Taylor Auzenne also helped in the win with 10 points for Duluth (11-6, 5-3).
Norcross 61, Mill Creek 32
NORCROSS -- Norcross kept its Region 7-AAAAAA record unblemished on Friday night with a 61-32 win over Mill Creek.
Diamond DeShields led the Blue Devils (14-2, 7-0) with 25 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Bri Williams added a solid game with 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Shayla Cooper chipped in with 12 points.
Meredith Schulte led Mill Creek with eight points and six rebounds. India Dillard added six points and five boards, while Kathleen Haxton scored seven points.
Meadowcreek 54, Collins Hill 53
SUWANEE -- Skyler Robinson of Meadowcreek hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Mustangs 54-53 over Collins Hill in Region 7-AAAAAA. The win was the first region win for the Mustangs (4-10, 1-6) this season and the first win ever for Meadowcreek over the Eagles.
Robinson finished with 18 points and six rebounds in leading the Mustangs, while Angel Alexander added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals. Ashley Okoku added 10 points, seven boards and three steals with Aysha Martin chipping in with nine points and seven rebounds.
Julianne Bayer scored 17 to lead Collins Hill, while Brittany Stowers scored 13.
Archer 45, South 43
SNELLVILLE -- Archer led by three at the half and held on to edge South Gwinnett 45-43 on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA action.
Kayla Rogers and Morgan Jackson paired up to score 14 each to lead Archer (12-4, 7-2), while Madison Newby helped by scoring 13 points. Jackson also finished with 12 rebounds, while Rogers tallied six rebounds and five steals.
South (9-8, 5-4) was led by 13 points from Jashawna Johnson, while Colette Onenda and Kierra Clayton each finished with 10 points.
Parkview 77, Berkmar 32
LILBURN -- Parkview received offensive contributions from 14 different players on Friday night as the Panthers rolled to a 77-32 win over Berkmar in a Region 8-AAAAAA contest.
Victoria Harris was one of three Panthers (17-0, 9-0) to score in double figures with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Marissa Mandeldove added 13 points with Makenna Pouengue finishing with 11 points.
Mia Marshall also played well for Parkview with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Brookwood 54, Central 47
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Rebecca Walker of Brookwood logged 20 points and 14 rebounds on Friday night as the Broncos got past Central Gwinnett 54-47 in Region 8-AAAAAA action.
Brookwood (10-7, 5-4) lost starter Nija Kurien in the first quarter with an ankle injury, but Taryn Dennie and Shelby Hunter led the relief effort from the bench with eight points each. Courtney Gardner also helped in the win with nine points.Central was led by 15 points from Briana McGee and 11 points from Alexandra Frazier.
Dacula 55, Grayson 39
DACULA -- Faustine Aifuwa had 15 points and 12 rebounds on Friday night to guide Dacula 55-39 over Grayson in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Jonnae Johnson also had 11 points and four steals for the Falcons, who improved to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the region. Anazjah Mayes (eight points, three assists), Brittany Johnson (six points, eight rebounds) and Katy Daniels (six points, seven assists, five steals) all had solid games for Dacula.
Buford 61, West Hall 22
BUFORD -- Buford rolled to a Region 7-AAA win on Friday night with a 61-22 thumping of West Hall.
Camille Anderson hit four 3-pointers en route to a 17-point night to lead Buford (11-3, 6-0), while Kaela Davis followed with 15 points.
Mill Creek 63, Norcross 55
NORCROSS -- Mill Creek scored a big Region 7-AAAAAA win on Friday night with a 63-55 upending of Norcross.
Trevon Shaw led the Hawks (12-5, 6-4) with 24 points, while Elijah Bryant added 19 points and seven assists. T.J. Christopher had a good effort with nine points, while Eric Ritland chipped in with eight points.
South 62, Archer 52
SNELLVILLE -- Logan Adams scored 18 points on Friday night in leading South Gwinnett 62-52 over Archer.
The win bumped South's record to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Peachtree Ridge 71, Habersham 46
MOUNT AIRY -- Peachtree Ridge logged a Region 7-AAAAAA win on Friday night with a 71-46 triumph over Habersham Central.
Brookwood 66, Central 65
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett held a five-point lead with less than two minutes to play against Brookwood on Friday night, but Deion Dedeaux's basket with nine seconds left proved to the winner as the Broncos rallied to top Central 66-65.
Dedeaux finished with 13 points, while Khalil Abdullah led Brookwood with 16 points. Brookwood improved to 14-3 overall and 6-3 in Region 8-AAAAAA.
Central (8-10, 2-7) had four players score in double figures, led by 22 from Brian Egejuru. Eman Westmoreland finished with 11 points, while Shaun Jones and Karon Jackson each scored 10.
Collins Hill 61, Meadowcreek 57
SUWANEE -- Devin Mitchell scored 18 points and JohnCarlos Reyes added 15 more to help Collins Hill 61-57 over Meadowcreek on Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.
Darius Joell chipped in with 10 points for the Eagles (13-6, 6-3), while senior Nate Williams led the team in rebounds with 11.
North 57, Mountain View 22
LAWRENCEVILLE -- After trailing 5-3 at the end of the first quarter, North Gwinnett bounced back to top Mountain View 57-22 on Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.
Kam Calhoun led North with 11 points, while T.J. Howard and Owen Lewis each added nine points.
Michael Jenkins of Mountain View led all scorers with 13 points.
Duluth 49, Lanier 30
DULUTH -- Duluth improved to 12-6 overall on Friday night with a 49-30 win over Lanier in a non-region game.
Ify Imachukwu led the Wildcats with 14 points. Shamus Goss followed with 13 points, while Kai Lambert scored nine off the bench.
Top scorers for Lanier were Simon Shafack and Jordan Davis with 10 points each.
