GAINESVILLE — Officials want to change the name of a road to help drive tourists to the Lake Lanier Islands resort area.
If the plan is approved, Friendship Road would become Lanier Islands Parkway.
The Hall County Planning Commission is set to consider the matter at its Jan. 22 meeting.
Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley says officials want to drive tourists to the Lake Lanier Islands resort since it's an economic engine and brings tax money to the county. She said the name change would spur more visits to Lake Lanier Islands.

just go and screw up all the GPS devices again. Thanks DOT. Can't leave anything alone. Tell us what is wrong with the present name? Someone must have thought is was good at one time!

It has nothing to with DOT. It's a Hall County issue.

Correct me if I'm worng, newer GPS's keep up with road name changes, you just have to up-date the device.

If I want to drive customers to my business I advertise. I would even bet that there are folks who work at the GDP that would be willing to sell you some. It's a crazy concept but it works!
