BUFORD -- A tractor trailer lost its load in Buford this morning.
At 12:45 a.m., crews were dispatched to mile marker 120 on Interstate 85 for an automobile accident. When arriving at the scene, fire personnel found a tractor trailer with a cargo of dry pellets rolled onto its side in a ditch on the northbound side of the interstate, near Hamilton Mill Road.
"A cab's side fuel tank ruptured and was spilling fuel on the roadway and in the grass on the side of the road," Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said.
Fire crews joined together with Gwinnett police to secured the area and assess the accident. Gwinnett County Fire's Haz Mat team was called to the scene to assist the crews at the scene with leak control. The leak was slowed to allow the removal of the truck.
Initially, there were no lanes shut down until the truck had to be "righted" by a wrecker service, then the entire northbound side was shut down for approximately an hour, Rhoden said.
There were no reports of injuries. The driver was charged with failure to maintain a lane.
