WINDER -- On the hunt for controlled substances, agents from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office found a marijuana distribution operation, and two suspects trying to flee through a window.
A search warrant for an address on East Midland Avenue in Winder on Friday helped agents find 10 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $20,000, about $3,000 in cash along with a shotgun and .38 caliber revolver.
Officers arrested Charles McDaid, 55, and Darrell Jackson, 29, who lived at the house, and Statham resident Mario Peters, 22.
Lt. Matt Guthas of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said investigators received a tip that drugs were being sold at the residence, which led SWAT team members to arrive at the house about 9 p.m.
When SWAT members arrived, Guthas said Peters and Jackson jumped through a glass window and attempted to flee, but were caught immediately.
All three are charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and theft by receiving. McDaid and Jackson were also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. And Jackson and Peters were charged with obstruction of an officer.
Guthas also said the revolver was stolen in Walton County.

Hopefully this story is incomplete. If they received a tip and conducted an investigation that led to the deployment of SWAT this would be a perfectly recognized method of operation. The part that makes this story frightening is if they received a tip and deployed SWAT. With all of the instances where "SWATTING" has been used as a practical joke one would hope that law enforcement would be more deliberative in their assaults.

Naw - a mere tip would not trigger that - they probably knew that the guys inside had histories or something. A few years ago I complained about a pretty overt drug vendor in a nearby cul-de-sac (large numbers of strange vehicles, some were obviously looking for the address, only stayed a few minutes and left quickly, during busy periods a guy on a cell phone stood watch at the end of the street - you know, the usual). The Police only showed up when the house had a home invasion, and that was that. Then again, a guy in Gwinnett was just questioned in his basement for having "grow house" equipment - used in his case for raising tropical plants. Then again again, when my wife installed a glass kiln the sudden electricity usage and "hot spots" (highly visible from infra-red seeking fly overs) were also very interesting.......

Wonder if the weapons were registered or stolen? Probably stolen if that is the case there could be a weapons charge tacked on espically if anyone of them were on probation. This would add more time if convicted.
