Special Photo Boy Scouts participate in The Campout of the Century at Bert Adams Scout Reservation in Covington.
DULUTH -- The Annual Button Gwinnett District Golden Eagle Breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Jan. 25, at the 1818 Club in Duluth.
The event aims to gather business and community leaders to help fulfill the mission of Boy Scouts of America, which is "To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
In addition, the event this year will recognize a longtime supporter of the local community's youth, Mark Tyrrell of Tapp Lumber.
Marsha Anderson Bomar is chairing the event. She is a senior principal with Stantec and a Duluth City Councilwoman

Jackson EMC Foundation gives to agencies serving Gwinnett County
JEFFERSON -- During its November meeting, the Jackson EMC Foundation Board of Directors awarded a total of $89,325 in grants, including $78,950 to organizations and $10,375 to individuals.
Awards included $15,000 to the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team for its two-year program serving high school juniors and seniors in 22 public schools, providing practical leadership skills and training to instill in their schools core leadership principles and develop student leaders.
Step by Step Recovery, a Lawrenceville community-based addiction recovery organization, was given $9,750 in grant money. The group provides a safe and structured environment for men and women as they complete a 12-step program to deal with drug and alcohol addictions. The grant will go toward rent for men's and women's units.
Since its founding in 2005, the Jackson EMC Foundation has put more than $7 million back into local communities.
