Wrestling roundup: Mountain View goes 4-0 to win Sequoyah Duals

Mountain View went 4-0 at the Sequoyah Duals on Saturday to win the 10-team tournament.

The Bears (20-3) defeated Hiram 77-6, Wesleyan 52-21, Creekview 60-9 and North Paulding 40-35 in the finals.

Adam Flatt (106 pounds), Kenny Cook (120), Kacey Gutierrez (138), D.J. Schrenk (145), Sterling Pyles (152), Jake Gandara (160) and Octavia Jarda (182) joined the team, going 4-0.

Archer places third at Illinois tourney

Archer’s wrestling team put four wrestlers in the finals to place third at the Granite City Invitational in Illinois on Saturday.

The Tigers scored 594 points to finish behind Tennessee’s No. 1 ranked Christian Brothers 665 points and Illinois’ No. 3 team Lincoln-Way Central’s 598 points.

Ernest Alexander and Thomas Bullard went 8-0 and placed first. Daniel Bullard and M.J. Couzan were 7-1 to finish runner-up.

Buford seventh at tourney

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Buford had five wrestlers place at the Tiger Holiday Classic to finish seventh with 129.5 points.

Chip Ness won the tournament at 182 pounds and was named most outstanding wrestler.

Brayden Hartley (126 pounds) was third, Darius Bunch (106) and Jack Barber (113) were fourth and Dima Aguero (195) was sixth.
