PREP ROUNDUP: Broncos rally to win baseball season opener

SNELLVILLE -- Down 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Brookwood scored two runs to take its baseball season opener, 6-5 over Hillgrove on Wednesday.

Tre Lawrence drew a two-out walk and immediately stole second. Jordan Dykes' RBI single scored Lawrence and Dykes later scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.

Michael Ranieri picked up the win in two innings of relief.

The Broncos were led by Dykes, who went 2-for-5, while Zach Moon went 2-for-3 with a double and Jonathan White was 2-for-3.

BASEBALL

Grayson 4, Collins Hill 2

LOGANVILLE -- Grayson had six total stolen bases in a 4-2 win over Collins Hill at home on Wednesday.

Austin Meadows went 1-for-2 with a double, three stolen bases and a run scored, while Brandon Benson had an RBI and two stolen bases. Jon Briley also had a triple and a run scored.

Chandler Amason picked up the win, while Jack Banda picked up the save.

For Collins Hill, Mitch McCain went four innings and struck out two, while William Holland went 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.

Duluth 7, Dacula 2

DACULA -- Duluth scored six runs in the top of the seventh to pick up a 7-2 win over Dacula on Wednesday.

Jose Ponce went five innings, giving up two hits as he picked up a no-decision. Austin Riedel picked up the win, pitching one inning.

The Wildcats were led by Dominique Jackson with a two-run-run triple and John Stoy with a two-run single.

Tyler Crumley threw 2 innings for the Falcons, giving up four hits and striking out one.

Leading hitters for Dacula (1-2) were Chance Keefer with a solo home run, and Nick Heamon and Nick Mollica, who each picked up a hit.

Mountain View 6, Shiloh 5

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Mountain View Bears got a strong five-inning performance Wednesday from Joey Bell on the mound, while Beau Blair closed the door over the final two innings, picking up six strikeouts in a 6-5 win over Shiloh.

Garry Gwaltney and Ben Autley led the team with two RBIs apiece, while Blair had a double and an RBI. Brant Schwendel also added a hit and a run.

Archer 3, Apalachee 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer (1-3) held on for a 3-2 win over Apalachee on Wednesday after a five-inning, seven-strikeout performance by Sean Fitzpatrick.

Brett Self and Gabe Tiller each went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Wesleyan 17, Lanier 2

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan (2-1) picked up a four-inning, 17-2 win over Lanier at home Wednesday.

Chrstopher Peden picked up the win on the mound, striking out four.The leading hitters were Sam Carver, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI, Pierce Ostwalt, who had a three-run home run and Jonny Richards, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

St. Pius X 7, North 6

SUWANEE -- North (1-1) saw its rally fall short in the bottom of the seventh inning, stranding runners on second and third base in a 7-6 loss to St. Pius on Wednesday.

Cody Short led the team by going 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer, while Blake Sangster had an RBI double and Michael Haynes had two RBIs.

Jordan Brown picked up the loss, going five innings and striking out five.

Buford 5, Providence 1

BUFORD -- The Buford Wolves (3-1) got a four-inning, eight-strikeout performance from Jake Higginbotham to beat the Providence Storm 5-1 on Wednesday.

Josh Bryan led Buford with a double and two RBIs, while Dillon Satterfield had an RBI and Austin Upshaw had a triple.

Luke Henderson with 4 innings, giving up two earned runs with two strikeouts for the Storm, while Jackson Winskie pitched the other 1 innings and struck out two.

David Rhodes was the leading hitter, going 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Allatoona 8, Berkmar 3

LILBURN -- Berkmar fell 8-3 Wednesday to Allatoona, one of the better teams in Class AAAAA.

The Patriots were led by David Zamerron, who went 2-for-3, while Mason Brown had a double.

Parker Osterle went six innings and struck out three on the mound as well.

BOYS SOCCER

Central 1, Moutain View 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Isaac Ramirez scored the only goal of the game in the first half Wednesday on an assist by Rigo Gudiel to move Central Gwinnett to 4-0 on the year with a 1-0 victory over Mountain View.

Ricky Ortiz picked up the shutout in goal, making seven saves.

Northview 3, Norcross 2

JOHNS CREEK -- Norcross got goals from Florentin Diaz and Marvin Mejia, but it wasn't enough to get the win Wednesday in a 3-2 loss at Northview.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wesleyan 8, King's Ridge 0

ALPHARETTA -- Wesleyan picked up its first win of the year, beating King's Ridge 8-0 Wednesday night.

Maddie Hall and Christina Moraitis led the team with two goals apiece, while Anna Mosley, Taylor Panther, Lizzie McIntosh and Ellie Hall added one goal each.

Vivian McCoy picked up the shutout in goal, making eight saves.

North 10, Lanier 0

SUGAR HILL -- North Gwinnett picked up its first win of the season in a 10-0 rout of Lanier on Wednesday.

Amanda Delgado had three goals, while Taylor Burns and Caroline Gualdoni had two goals apiece.

Northview 3, Norcross 2

JOHNS CREEK -- Norcross got two goals from Jordan Lewter, but it wasn't enough to pick up the road win Wednesday in a 3-2 loss at Northview.

BOYS LACROSSE

Mill Creek 7, Grayson 4

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek (3-1) got three goals and an assist from Nick Kozlowski in a 7-4 win over Grayson on Wednesday.

Andrew Eubanks, Jake Hubbard, Ian Miller and Zach Roper each added a goal as well.

For Grayson (0-1), Christian Brook and Nick Peters had two goals apiece.

Duluth 16, North Cobb 6

ACWORTH -- Duluth (1-1) picked up a 16-6, road win at North Cobb on Wednesday behind five-goal efforts from Brendan Eckard and Jordan Dandridge. Zack Consie also contributed three goals.

Sky Tabor picked up the win in goal, making nine saves.

Peachtree Ridge 14, Wesleyan 3

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge scored early and often in the 14-3 win over Wesleyan on Wednesday.

Wesleyan (1-1) was led by Matt Zimmerman with two goals, while Jake Miller had one goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Mountain View 15, Parkview 14, OTs

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View picked up a key overtime win over Parkview, 15-14, on Wednesday.

Kirsten White and Zoe Foy led the Bears (1-1) with six goals apiece, while Megan Thomason added two goals. Ella Makon also made 12 saves in the net for the Bears.

Leading the way for Parkview (1-3) were Kelly Spevacek and Riley Fields with six goals each.

Peachtree Ridge 18, Duluth 13

DULUTH -- Peachtree Ridge got six goals Wednesday from Kristin Scheder in an 18-13 win, improving to 1-2 on the year.

The Lions also got four goals and two assists from Kayla Jones, and three goals and four assists from Darby Frisbie.

For Duluth (1-1), Ali Cole led the team with three goals and three assists, while Rebecca Graham also had three goals.

Grace Carnazzo had 10 saves in goal.

Wesleyan 17, Gainesville 0

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan had a dominating performance Wednesday, improving to 2-2 on the year with a 17-0 rout of Gainesville.

Defensively, the Wolves were led by sisters Meredith and Victoria DiStasi.

BOYS TENNIS

Buford 5, Providence 0

BUFORD -- Buford shut out Providence 5-0 on Wednesday and moved to 7-0 on the year.

Picking up wins for Buford were Colby West, Nicholas Becker and Alex Turner in singles' action. The doubles' teams of Rob Hunter and Skyler Wilson, and Josh Thompson and Jabin Stepp also won.

Collins Hill 5, Chamblee 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill had no problem defeating Chamblee 5-0 Wednesday at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Picking up wins for Collins Hill (5-1) were singles' players Ian Melnik, Evan Padvorac and Aalok Patel, and the doubles' teams of Jake Inderrieden and Marcus Maloney, and Peyton Rushing and Josh Jackson.

Brookwood 4, Johns Creek 1

JOHNS CREEK -- The Brookwood Broncos stayed undefeated on the year with a 4-1 win at Johns Creek on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for Brookwood were Drew Wendel, Zach Jennings and David Brown at all three singles' positions, and the No. 1 doubles' team of Matt Jones and Christian Gochnaver.

Mill Creek 5, West Forsyth 0

CUMMING -- Mill Creek shut out West Forsyth 5-0 Wednesday to move to 4-1 on the year.

Picking up wins were Quentin Lavender, Adam Gonterman and Shawn Tribble at all three singles' positions. The doubles' teams of Brad Adkins and Colin Pendelton, and Travis Hanes and Jake Foley also picked up wins.

Central 3, Dacula 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett moved to 4-1 on the year with a 3-2 win over Dacula on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for Central were Tony Nguyen at No. 2 singles, Timmi Hoang at No. 3 singles, and the No. 2 doubles' team of Aaron Manila and Brian Lopez.

Matt Nelson won at No. 1 singles for Dacula, while the No. 1 doubles' team of Zak Germaine and Louis Condt also won.

Centennial 3, Wesleyan 2

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan (1-3) fell short in a non-region matchup, falling 3-2 at home against Centennial on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for the Wolves were Jeffrey Chang at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles' team of Michael Armstrong and Cameron Anderson.

Mill Creek 4, West Forsyth 1

CUMMING -- Mill Creek moved to 5-0 on the year with a 4-1 road win vs. West Forsyth on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for Mill Creek were Madison Hahn at No. 1 singles, Allison Weaver at No. 2 singles, Lauren Atkinson and No. 3 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Emily Husfeld and Jordan Lattie.

Wesleyan 3, Centennial 2

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan picked up its third win of the season, besting Centennial 3-2 on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for Wesleyan (3-1) were Sophia Strickland at No. 1 singles, Savannah Strickland at No. 2 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Katie McLaughlin and Katie Van Laeke.

North 3, Johns Creek 2

JOHNS CREEK -- North moved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-2 win on the road against Johns Creek on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for the Bulldogs were Hannah Serdinia at No. 1 singles, Isabell Balsavage at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles' team of Haley Wix and Emma Etelalahti.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Dacula held on for a 3-2 win on the road over Central Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Picking up wins for Dacula were Nicki Neal at No. 1 singles, Brittany Campbell at No. 2 singles, and the No. 1 doubles' team of Colleen Hansen and Daniella Ramirez.

Central's two wins came from Kathy Nguyen at No. 3 singles, and the No. 2 doubles' team of Sabina Akaratoric and Mia Smajic.

Buford 3, Providence 2

BUFORD -- Buford edged Providence 3-2 in non-region action Wednesday at home.

Picking up wins for Buford (6-1) were Mariajose Ferreyros at No. 2 singles, the No. 1 doubles' team of Savannah Whaley and Abbey Mitchell, and the No. 2 doubles' team of Jessica Thompson and Rebecca Hendrix.

Winning for Providence (1-3) were Vani Christ at No. 1 singles and Maryellyn Erannon at No. 3 singles.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill squeaked out a 3-2 win against Chamblee on Wednesday at Georgia Gwinnett College.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Duluth beat Norcross 143-181 in a match played Wednesday at Northwood Country Club. Jordyn Sims was the low medalist, shooting a 42.

BRASELTON -- In a shortened seven-hole match, Buford's MariaLuisa Ferreyros shot a 38 to lead the Wolves to a 118-135 win over Jefferson on Wednesday.
