LAKELAND, Fla. -- Juan Francisco hit a long three-run homer in the first inning off Rick Porcello and the Braves evened their Grapefruit League record at 3-3 with a 5-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Francisco also had a single, giving him consecutive two-hit games. Chris Johnson, who is battling with Francisco for playing time at third base, also had two hits to raise his average to .444. Francisco, the DH against the Tigers, is batting .333.
Tim Hudson started for the Braves and allowed a two-run homer to Prince Fielder in the first inning before ending his three-inning stint with seven straight outs.
Jordan Schafer and Joey Terdoslavich joined Francisco and Johnson with two hits for the Braves. One of Terdoslavich's hits was a double.
The Braves play Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater on Thursday, with Paul Maholm getting his second start. The game will be televised on the MLB Network at 1:05 p.m.
