NGMC named a top 50 hospital

GAINESVILLE -- A company that measures healthcare quality and safety ratings has named the Northeast Georgia Medical Center one of America's 50 best hospitals this year.

Healthgrades recently released research that said NGMC had a risk-adjusted mortality and complication rate that's among the lowest five percent in the country for at least seven years. The hospital was also rated No. 1 in Georgia for cardiology, general surgery and gastrointestinal services. It was also in the top five percent in the country for coronary intervention procedures, critical care, pulmonary services and women's health.

"Our organization has received an increasing number of awards for the care we provide our patients, but this is no doubt the most rewarding recognition we've received thus far," said Carol Burrell, president and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System.

Healthgrades evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide -- reviewing and analyzing clinical performance across 27 common procedures and diagnoses -- to determine the nation's best performing hospitals based on objective measures of clinical quality.
