CONYERS — A tree fell across Interstate 20 westbound Tuesday morning, killing a motorist and turning the interstate into a parking lot for morning commuters.
Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Investigator Michael Camp said a man was driving westbound near Sigman Road at about 6:30 a.m. when a tree fell across the roadway. Camp speculated that recent rainfall may have caused the tree, possibly a pine tree, to uproot and fall.
"The tree fell and crushed his truck," said Camp. "It landed perfectly on top of the cab."
The victim's name has not yet been released.
Camp said there were several chain-reaction accidents in the wake of the fatality, but there were apparently no serious injuries in those wrecks.
