Darlington deals Providence first-round loss

ROME -- Providence Christian's girls were determined not to let Terar Stewart hurt them like she did by scoring 21 points in an earlier loss to Darlington this season.

The Storm held Stewart to just six points in Friday's first-round game of the Class A (Private School) state tournament, but Maggie Beth Atha scored 20 points and Keara Evans added 12 as the Tigers rolled to a 62-27 home win over Providence.

"We went in defending (Stewart), but they (Darlington) just had other players step up," Providence coach Vanita McGough said after her team's season ended at 17-11. "Overall, our girls didn't quit. They played hard. The bottom line is, we had trouble scoring. But I'm proud of the girls. They've worked hard all season."

The Storm got 10 points from Katie Scott, while Jessie Kowalewicz chipped in nine points.
