Suwanee wins 6 awards for its events

SUWANEE -- Already known for its events season around Gwinnett, Suwanee added to its regional trophy case this week.

The city brought home six Kaleidoscope Awards from the Southeast Festival and Events Association at its annual conference in Auburn, Ala, according to a news release. The city's Super Incredible Race and Suwanee Day were the headline winners out of the city's nearly 40 events last year.

The Super Incredible Race was named Best New Event after the scavenger hunt and race took teams through downtown Suwanee last spring. This year's installment is scheduled for April 20.

The 29th annual Suwanee Day won five awards, including gold for Best Sponsor, Lewis Expo and Logistics.

"I was really excited that Suwanee won more awards than any other city or organization," Events Manager Amy Doherty said in a news release. "We take a lot of pride in putting together creative, fun events that help enhance our sense of community."

This year's Suwanee Day festival, on Sept. 21, has been recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society as a top 20 event for the fall.

Add Duluth to that list. They throw away to much tax money at the venue they have that on one can get in and out of eadily.

Mack711 - I'll try to tanslate through your typos..... How much money has Duluth thrown away on their venue? And what is so hard about getting in and out of a venue with 700+ free parking spaces?

Mack711 - Please tell us how much Duluth threw away on the venue. And do tell me what is so hard getting in and out of a place with over 700 free parking places.

Cp3: First let’s start with parking. Where are the majority of the parking spaces located? Most are on a two lane street behind the facility not on a four lane corner like in Suwanee. Second it takes longer to get in or out of the venue because of this. To avoid this some park in Proctor Square and walk to the venue In order to avoid congestion when the venue is over. Suwanee has a larger area to work with and the restaurants that will support the venues. How many shops have opened on Main Street only to close in less than a year? It is all about Location. Duluth does not have it, therefore cannot compete with Suwanee.

City Hall is in the wrong location to host a large event concerts. City Hall should have been built where Proctor Square is now in order to have the venues that the city wants. That way you could have more exit points than you currently have at the current location.

As for wasting money take a look at the roundabout and the dog park, just to name a few there are more. The combined cost for this is about 1.5 million dollars combined and climbing. Some say that the roundabout was a waste of money and that a 3 way stop would have been easier to install. A traffic signal would have been a better alternative to what is there now. Traffic wound flow easier. Additionally the cost of maintainence will be ongoing. How many times have the bricks in the 3 way stop on main street been replaced and at what cost to the taxpayer.

That is why Suwanee has won these awards.

Now as far as typing, cannot do that very well, but you have the idea of what was trying to be said.

I didn't realize the dog park and roundabout were at the Town Green venue. "They throw away to much tax money at the venue "
