SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, while Jordan Brown threw two strong innings out of the bullpen in a 5-2 Bulldogs win over Providence Christian on Thursday at McDaniel Field.
Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, North (1-0) tied the game on Cody Short's sacrifice fly and took the lead on a two-run single by Justin Moran. Blake Sangster had an RBI double earlier in the game.
That made a winner out of Brown (1-0), who came on in relief in the top of the sixth and struck out six, giving up just one hit through two shutout innings.
Tucker Baca started for the Bulldogs and gave up just three hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts through five innings.
Erich Stahl drove in a run with a two-out double in the top of the third, followed by and RBI single from Max Broom as Providence jumped out to the early lead.
Charlie Scott and Luke Henderson each had a double for the defending Class A state champion Storm (0-1).
Duluth 4, Apalachee 1
DULUTH -- John Stoy blasted a two-run home run, while Austin Riedel and Noe Garcia combined for a strong pitching outing as the Wildcats downed Apalachee on Thursday at Franklin Field.
Riedel (1-0) gave up just three hits and an earned run with two strikeouts over four innings, while Garcia fanned one in three hitless innings to earn his first save of the season.
Duluth (1-1) also got help at the plate from Ryan McClenden, who drove in a run with a double.
Norcross 5, Marietta 1
MARIETTA -- Joseph Wilber threw a complete game, while Griffin Helms and Jess Ramsey each had a big day at the plate as Norcross went to Jackie Smallwood Field and came away with the 5-1 win in the battle of the Blue Devils on Thursday.
Wilber (1-0), scattered five hits and one earned run and struck out eight in getting the win, while Helms went 2-for-3, with a homer and an RBI and Ramsey was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Norcross (1-1) offense.
Trevor Craport and Yuuki Bomar each had a hit and a run, while Devin Geraghty drove in a run with a pinch-hit single.
Marist 4, Collins Hill 0
ATLANTA -- The Eagles fell to the War Eagles 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Ryan Askew (0-1) took the loss despite giving up just two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work on the mound. Luisa Delatorre threw two shutout innings with on a hit with a strikeout out of the bullpen.
Cole Zacowski and Austin Gonzalez had one hit each for Collins Hill (0-1).
Northview 5, Peachtree Ridge 4
SUWANEE -- The Lions fell to the Titans 5-4 at home Thursday despite a strong day from Tyler Haswell both on the mound and at the plate.
The South Carolina signee had a hit and drove in two runs, and threw four innings, giving up just one hit and one earned run with eight strikeouts.
Tyler Chaney went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Peachtree Ridge (0-1), while Cam Shepherd was also 2-for-4 with a double, and Jared Stedman and Cooper Burdick each added a hit.
Mountain View 9, Archer 4
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Joey Bell contributed with his arm and his bat as the Bears went on the road to beat the Tigers 9-4 on Thursday.
Bell (1-0) threw three innings of shutout relief, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts to get the win, and had two hits at the plate, as Mountain View improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Garry Gwaltney three hits and two RBIs, while Peyton Fore added two hits and Beau Blair had two hits and drove in three runs. A.J. Moore started for the Bears on the mound, and scattered four hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts in three innings.
Buford 2, GAC 1
BUFORD -- Jake Higginbotham had a clutch outing out of the bullpen and the Wolves scored twice in the fifth inning to beat the Spartans in a low scoring game Thursday at Buford.
Higginbotham (1-0) threw four no-hit innings and struck out eight to get the win, while Josh Bryan's sacrifice fly tied the game for Buford (2-0) in the fifth, and courtesy runner Ryan Groves later came home on a wild pitch to score the tying run.
Each team had just three hits, with Austin Upshaw's one-out double and a Joey Bart single being key in Buford's fifth-inning rally.
Brookwood 5, Dacula 0
DACULA -- The Broncos (4-0, 1-0) remained unbeaten overall by sweeping the Falcons in their Region 8-AAAAAA opener Thursday at Trophy Club at Apalachee Farms.
Drew Wendel, Matt Jones and David Brown all won singles matches, while the doubles teams of Zach Jennings and Christian Gochnauer and Ryan Pridgeon and Matt Bullock also posted wins for Brookwood.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Singles wins by Jon North, Emory Wlilliams and Clayton Cheek helped the Storm (1-2, 1-0) post their first win of the season with a Region 8-A, Division B win over the Eagles on Thursday.
Taylor McGlothlin and Matthew Sheffield teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, while Zach Beavers and Daniel Chi got the win at No. 2 doubles.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Bears swept the doubles matches to edge Pinecrest Academy in a non-region match Thursday at home.
The No. 1 team of Erik Sequeira and Devin Britt and the No. 2 team of Troy Major and Raul Ciuha each got wins to remain undefeated on the season.
Jeffrey Coy won in straight sets to post the only singles win of the day for Mountain View (2-2).

LAWRENCEVILLE --The Tigers swept the Comets 5-0 in their Region 8-AAAAAA opener Thursday at Rhodes Jordan Park.

ALPHARETTA -- Alex Makarenko led a singles sweep as the Lions downed the Raiders on Thursday on the road.

MADISON -- Colby West led a trio of singles wins at the No. 1 line as the Wolves downed the Bulldogs 4-1 Monday at Madison County.

LOGANVILLE -- The Rams swept the doubles matches on their way to a 4-1 win over the Patriots in Region 8-AAAAAA action Thursday at Grayson.
Lauren Arnold and Mariel White won at No. 1 doubles, while Chandler Bean and Morgan Gunter took the No. 2 doubles match for Grayson (1-2, 1-0)

NORCROSS -- Rachel Garcia had a hat trick and an assist to become GAC's all-time leading scorer, but the Class AA Spartans still fell to the Class AAAA War Eagles 5-4 in a battle of top-ranked teams Thursday at GAC.
Garcia's goals gave her 102 for her career, passing 2005 graduate Jennifer Johnson's school record of 101.
Dani Marcano also had a goal and an assist for the Spartans (2-1) in the loss, while Kayla Puzas and Abbie Abrahart added an assist each.

NORCROSS -- Davis Bryan scored twice and added an assist as the top-ranked Spartans (Class AA) edged the fifth-ranked (AAAA) War Eagles 3-2 Thursday at home.
Max Gomas also scored, while Zion Gray and Richard Hamryka each had an assist, and goalkeeper Jake Doiron, made 10 saves to help GAC (4-0) remain undefeated.

ATHENS -- Isaac Ramirez's goal off an assist from Brayan Herrera with 25 minutes left lifted the Black Knights to a 2-1 road win over the Gladiators on Thursday.
Samir Ramic also scored, while goalkeeper Ricky Ortiz added 13 saves for Central (3-0).
North Gwinnett 17, Archer 1
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Lauren Aycock and Lindsey Cobb each had four goals as the Bulldogs rolled past the Tigers 17-1 Thursday at Archer.
Katie Veret also had a hat trick for North (2-0), while Victoria Del Nero and Maddie Woods combined for nine saves in goal.

NORCROSS -- Nine different players scored or had at least one assist, led by a five-goal, four-assist night from Whit Anderson as the Spartans routed the Red Elephants on Thursday at home.
Sam Harte had two goals and four assists, while Peter Whiteneck and Gunner Cape each tallied a hat trick, with Whiteneck adding an assist, for GAC (1-0, 1-0) in its Area 3-AAAAA-A win.
Brookwood 7, Duluth 5
DULUTH -- Lee Collier had two goals, two assists and five groundballs, while Daniel Monda added two goals, and an assist as the Broncos edged the Wildcats 7-5 in the season opener for both teams Thursday at Duluth.
Miles Yapp finished with two goals, while Reed Cowan also scored for Brookwood (1-0 overall, 1-0 in Area 4-AAAAAA).
Sky Tabor had 16 saves and Jordan Dandridge scored two goals to lead Duluth (0-1).
