First U.S. Ebola case confirmed September 30, 2014

HIAWASSEE CARLYLE, THURMON Mr. Thurmon T. Carlyle, age 91, of Hiawassee, GA and formerly of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Peppers Carlyle; daughter, Brenda Carlyle Johnson; son, Tommy Alan Carlyle; and parents, Tom and Mae Burell Carlyle. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dan Scruggs, Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Keith Johnson, Ken Johnson, Wendi Johnson, Stephanie Dudley, Chris Johnson, Jodie Johnson and Blake Nash; seventeen great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and numerous cousins. Mr. Carlyle was born December 7, 1921 in Buford, GA. He was a graduate of Sugar Hill School. He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran. He was retired from Lockheed Co. with over twenty-five years of service and he also retired from Micromeritics in Norcross, GA. He was a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge No. 292 F. & A.M., a member of the Chatuge Gun Club and a Gun Collector. He enjoyed traveling. He was a former member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church in Sugar Hill, GA and a member of McConnell Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Pirkle officiating. Interment and Masonic graveside service will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. The Masons will serve as pallbearers.
