Grizzlies crush Spartanburg Methodist 9-0 in men's and women's tennis

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Tony Kostadinov, Luke Morland and Theo Arruda each won their team-best fourth singles matches of the year as the Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory on Wednesday over Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.) at the GGC tennis facility.

The Grizzlies dropped just five total games on the day and improved to 4-0 as a team while the Pioneers fell to 0-8.

Georgia Gwinnett picked up early doubles points from Kostadinov/Erik Moberg and Morland/Hernan Hatem as each duo remained undefeated this season.

The team of Taylor Hardy and Theo Harris moved to 3-0 on the year with an 8-0 victory of their own.

In singles, Kostadinov, Morland, Theo Arruda and Shaine Brower each won 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, Aaron Harris and Peter Bodnar captured their first singles win in a GGC uniform with 6-1, 6-0 victories.

GGC women 9, SMC 0

The Georgia Gwinnett women's tennis team captured a win in its first-ever home match on Wednesday with a 9-0 shutout of Spartanburg Methodist College (S.C.) at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (2-0) dropped only one game in the match overall as the Pioneers fell to 0-8.

Georgia Gwinnett got off to a 2-0 start in doubles as the teams of Paloma Cortina/Shirley Vas and Rocio Fernandez/Joyce Oliveira each won their second contest in as many tries.

Cortina, Fernandez and Oliveira then posted 6-0, 6-0 wins apiece in singles.

Freshman Abigail Mazza picked up her first singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

The Grizzlies return to the courts Saturday against NCAA Division II squad Georgia Southwestern at 2 p.m. at the GGC tennis facility.
