NORCROSS -- A dog was rescued from a house fire Wednesday, fire officials said.
The blaze broke out about 4:18 p.m. in the 900 block of Lancelot Drive, when the residents were not home, said Gwinnett Fire spokesman Colin Rhoden.
After a neighbor called 911, crews arrived to find a one-room fire in the single-story house. Rhoden said the fire damaged a bedroom and sent smoke throughout the house.
The family pet was the only one home at the time, but three adults and three children have been displaced due to the damage, Rhoden said. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
Rhoden said the family has renters insurance and had smoke detectors, although they may not have been functioning properly.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
