ATHENS — A 19-year-old Kennesaw State University student is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck while walking alongside a road in Athens.
Police say Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass next to a roadway early Saturday morning when the truck left the road and hit her and then fled. Witnesses described the truck. Police found it a short time later, but they couldn't find the driver.
Bowman was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Her father, Dale Bowman, said doctors removed part of his daughter's skull to help relieve swelling. He says she's been on a ventilator since surgery. Police say they think the driver of the truck is a 22-year-old man who isn't cooperating with authorities.
