Snellville PD taking applications for citizens academy

SNELLVILLE -- The Snellville Police Department is accepting applications for another run of its citizens police academy.

The 10-week class, which gives everyday residents an inside look at the department, will begin March 28 and meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Topics will include traffic stops, responses to domestic violence, drug use and K-9 officers.

Residents will also get the chance to participate in a ride-along with an on-duty Snellville police officer.

"What we really hope the citizens get out of it is how they can better help us do our job, by learning what we do on a daily basis," Sgt. Trey Downs said.

The program is free of charge and open to "all residents of the south end of the county," Downs said.

Those interested can email Downs at tdowns@snellville.org, or obtain an application at snellville.org.
