No proof budget reduction will create jobs
I have two thoughts about Cal Thomas's column ("Obama just recycling same old failed idea," Feb. 14, 8A).
First, I agree that Congress must take significant steps to reduce the federal budget. But where is there any proof that reducing the federal budget by hundreds of billions of dollars every year will create any jobs? To the contrary, this country is likely to lose 100,000 or more jobs each year under the Republican plan to reduce the deficit.
Second, Mr. Thomas objects to reducing our nuclear arensal. The U.S. has an nuclear arsenal of thousands of weapons that can kill every person on this planet many times over. How many nuclear weapons do we need in our arsenal, Mr. Thomas, to defend ourselves against Iran and North Korea?
