Robert Ernest Webb of Duluth, Georgia died Sunday, February 10, 2013. He was born in 1925 to Robert Ernest and Gladys Cook Webb of Norcross, Georgia. Mr. Webb was a life-long resident of Gwinnett County and made his home with this wife, Opal, in Cardinal Lake Estates. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Byron Webb; and his sons, Michael Ernest Webb and William Robert Webb. Mr. Webb is survived by his wife of 67 years, Opal Hazel O’Kelley Webb; his daughters, Janie Webb Miller and Cindy Webb Berwick; and grandsons, Jesse Michael Berwick, Nicholas William Berwick and Jackson Donald Berwick. Robert Webb served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as a tail gunner in a B-29 “Super Fortress” Bomber. He was stationed in the Marianas Islands on Tinian Atoll. He completed 35 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with numerous citations for meritorious service. At the end of the War, he returned to Gwinnett County and began his career at General Motors in Doraville. He retired after 35 years. Mr. Webb’s retirement was devoted to his family, especially his grandsons, as he pursued his passions of gardening, fishing, and bird watching. Perhaps his greatest entertainment was music in all forms, but especially hymns. He never stopped singing. The funeral service for Mr. Webb will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14th, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross. Burial will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13th, at the funeral home.
