GMC nurses add multi-cultural training

LAWRENCEVILLE -- One of the hospitals in the most diverse county in the Southeast is expanding its outreach and educational offerings for members from non-Western cultures.

Gwinnett Medical Center's Faith Community Nurses provide guidance during a health crisis through education, spiritual and emotional support, a news release said. The addition to the program includes non-Western cultural sensitivity about family hierarchy, financial decisions and healthcare treatments.

To start the program, GMC program manager Debbie Huckaby developed a multicultural advisory panel of diverse healthcare professionals.

"The recent program transformation was based on the hospital system's desire to enhance the health of patients and others, as well as to partner with other organizations to addresses disease and create a healthier community," GMC spokeswoman Beth Okun said.
