CUMMING — Search teams are looking by boat and by air for a boater believed to be missing on Lake Lanier.
At about 9:40 p.m., Georgia Department of Natural Resources officers received a call about a boat circling in the water that appeared to have no one on board, department spokeswoman Melissa Cummings said.
By the time the officers arrived, the boat had apparently run out of gas and was found abandoned along a bank, causing crews to begin a search, she said.
On Tuesday morning, DNR and Forsyth County fire and rescue units began to stage a search at Little Ridge Park in Cumming. Cummings said the search included helicopters and sonar equipment on boats, and divers were on their way to assist.
While boat registration records were being searched, Cummings said she did not have any immediate information about the person believed to be missing.

With the weather we have been having, how could someone go out in the Lake by themselves?
