Credit union donates $10k to GCPS Foundation

SUWANEE -- Peach State Federal Credit Union recently donated $10,000 to the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation scholarship fund.

Formerly Gwinnett Federal Credit Union, the group issued the following statement in a news release:

"It is a pleasure to continue our longstanding relationship with Gwinnett County Public Schools," said Marshall Boutwell, President/CEO of Peach State Federal Credit Union.

In accepting the donation, GCPS Foundation Fund President David Seago said: "I applaud Peach State Federal Credit Union for this effort. Gwinnett depends on the quality of the workforce, and it is a smart investment to help students achieve post-secondary success."

Money donated to the Foundation's scholarship fund will be used to support four Gwinnett students who will graduate in May as part of the Class of 2013. Two of the scholarships, each with a $2,500 value, will be presented to students who earn the J. Alvin Wilbanks teaching scholarship.

Named after GCPS' Superintendent, the scholarship recognizes students who have a desire to enter the teaching profession. The other scholarship is named after public servant Louise Radloff, Gwinnett's longest serving Board of Education member.

Two Louise Radloff scholarships are presented annually to two Gwinnett students on their way to graduation after overcoming significant challenges to earn their high school diploma. The winners will be announced in the spring.

The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit 501C3 charitable organization "dedicated to enhancing and expanding the academic initiatives of Gwinnett students."
