PREP ROUNDUP: Archer qualifies 14 for state wrestling tourney

Archer's wrestling team put itself in good position to win next week's tradional state tournament.

The Tigers, who won last month's Class AAAAAA dual state title, qualified all 14 wrestlers for next week's state tournament in Macon. The 14 qualifiers is the most by any team in Class AAAAAA. Camden County had 11 and defending state champion Collins Hill had nine.

The Tigers had eight East Sectional champions at host Chattahoochee. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state tournament at the Macon Centreplex next week.

DaQuan Olbert (113), Sam Bullard (120), Grant Aycox (126), Chris Diaz (132), Daniel Bullard (138), Thomas Bullard (138), Ernest Alexander (195) and M.J. Couzon (285) were first for the Tigers.

Vinny Artigues (106), Zach Wright (152) and Hunter McCleskey (220) were second, Elliott Lee (170) was third, Orlando Nawade (160) was fourth and Robby Kwateng (182) was sixth.

Collins Hill had three champions at the West Sectional at Kennesaw Mountain. Sean Russell (113), Ryan Millhof (120) and Anthony Codella (160) were first. Codi Russell (106), Griffin Riley (132) and Michael Roquet (145) were second.

Jimmy Gall (152) was third, Anderson Palm (285) was fourth and Aubrey Johnson (182) was seventh.

North Gwinnett had eight qualifiers and Brookwood had seven.

The Broncos' Drew McCorkle (113) was second, Wyatt Jozwowski (132) and Stephen Solamon (170) were fourth, Thanh Nguyen (120) was seventh

Dacula's Marcus Nelson (120) was fifth, Keenan Doricent (106) and Peyton Garret (285) were sixth.

The Bulldogs' Jalen Brooks (220) was first, Avery Elford (160), Timi Akinniranye (182) and Brett Byerly (195) were second, Hunter Franklin (126) was third, John Hyre (120) was fourth, John Roark (285) was sixth and Donovan Haynes (132) was eighth.

Mountain View, Grayson and Parkview followed with five qualifiers each.

The Bears' Sterling Pyles (152) was second, Adam Flatt (106) was third, Kavey Gutierrez (132) was sixth, Kenny Cook (120) and Tony Torres (126) were seventh.

The Rams' Tommy Aluko (195) and Josh Dominguez (126) were sixth, Zakk McDonald (106) and Javaughn Anderson (132) were seventh, Ben Sewell (120) was eighth.

The Panthers' Andrew Webb (126), Khalil Shakur (160) and Harrison Schmid (195) were second, Will Anderson (132) was sixth and Zac Dean (113) was eighth.

Peachtree Ridge's Karar Alasady (145) was first, Bambot Murtaza (126) and Ryan Moon (160) were fifth.

Norcross' Rudy Guillen (138) was third, Michael Cunningham (120) was sixth and Michael Gaylor (160) was eighth.

Meadowcreek's Rene Deluna (132) was third, OG Harden (170) was fifth and Eden Harden (145) was sixth.

Central Gwinnett's Levion Lewis (145) was fourth and Mathew Watkins (138) was seventh.

Duluth's Alex Brown (220) was third and Deon Lauderdale (145) was fifth. Shiloh's Adan Velasquez (126) was fifth and Idell Gladney (152) was sixth.

WRESTLING

GAC qualifies six for state

DUBLINE -- Greater Atlanta Christian had six wrestlers qualify for next week's state tournament at the sectional on Saturday.

Carter Clinebell led the way at 132 pounds by taking first place. Trent Scates (138) was second and Hunter Hemmings (106), Brandon Braldey (113), Kyle Politz (120) and Aiden Jarrett (160) placed third.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mountain View 70, West Forsyth 58

CUMMING -- Michael Jenkins scored 29 points to lead Mountain View past West Forsyth 70-58 on Saturday.

Andre Joseph scored 14 and Will Hartter had 12 for the Bears (4-21).

Buford 87, Fannin County 21

BUFORD -- Buford had three players score in double figures to beat Fannin County 87-21 on Saturday.

Matt McMorris led the Wolves with 15 points, Kyle Doyle had 14 and Chris Pass added 13.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Buford 69, Fannin County 30

BUFORD -- Buford had three players score in double figures to beat Fannin County 69-30 on Saturday.

Camille Anderson led the Wolves (19-4) with 16 points, while Kristina Nelson had 15 and McKenzie Darrah scored 12.

Archer 73, Shiloh 42

Archer locked up the No. 2 seed for the Region 8-AAAAAA Tournament with a 73-42 victory over Shiloh on Friday night.

The Tigers (18-7, 11-5) got big games from both Marissa Jordan (17 points, five rebounds) and Madison Newby (17 points, six assists, five rebounds, five steals).

Alesha Mann had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for Archer, while Kayla Rogers added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Courtney Blair scored 10 to lead Shiloh (1-20, 1-15).

GYMNASTICS

Buford wins first meet

BUFORD -- Buford's gymnastics team won its first ever meet by scoring 139.15 points to beat Johns Creek on Saturday at Gymnastixs Training Center.

The Wolves were led by Logan Nugent (36.5), Kryslyn Moore (35.05) and Caroline Davis (33.15). Adrienne Smith, Brei Butts, Carolina Goyco and Tyra Williams also competed.
