Georgia United Credit Union hosting food drive

DULUTH -- Did you fill up your pantry with spices, canned food and grains for the holidays? Here's the time to clean out your food clutter.

Today through March 31, the Georgia United Credit Union is collecting food for its annual "Can Hunger" food drive to benefit local food banks.

Those who drop off non-perishable food -- or make a $1 donation -- at any of Georgia United's participating locations are entered to win an iPad. The donated money raised goes back to the business, which buys additional food for the cause.

The items needed are:

-- Peanut butter;

-- Canned tuna and chicken;

-- Canned fruit and vegetables;

-- Canned soups, stews and pasta;

-- 100 percent fruit juice; and

-- Boxed pasta and rice.

In the county, Georgia United is collecting food at two locations. One is at its corporate office at 6705 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth. The other is its Gwinnett office at 2270 Satellite Blvd. in Duluth. Both spots will give the donated food to Cross Point Church, which partners with the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Last year, the business collected more than 9.1 tons of food during a two month period or roughly 18,375 items.
