El Salvador international Richie Menjivar is joining the Atlanta Silverbacks and goalkeeper Daniel Illyes is leaving the team, the club announced Friday.
Menjivar, a 22-year-old midfielder, has earned four caps for his county's senior national team and is another product of Eric Wynalda's Cal FC team.
"We're ecstatic about Richie joining the club because he is a tremendous player with incredible potential and abilities," said Wynalda, the Silverbacks technical director, in a press release. "I would encourage the fans to come out and see him while they can because a player of this caliber won't go unnoticed."
Menjivar is on loan from Turin FC of El Salvador. He played with Blokhus FC of Denmark in 2012 after his stint with Cal FC. He played with the U.S. U-18 team before paying for El Salvador's Olympic qualifying squad last year. He went all 90 minutes in a 3-3 draw against the United States that kept the Americans out of the London Olympics.
Illyes, who started 22 of 28 games in goal last season, mutually parted ways with the team, the club announced Friday.
A press release stated a desire by Illyes, 30, to focus on his goalkeeping academy in his native land Hungary.
The departure of Illyes will open up an opportunity in net for Joe Nasco and Grayson grad Eric Ati.
