ACWORTH — Police are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a bicyclist outside Atlanta.
The bicyclist was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon on Bells Ferry Road in Acworth.
Investigators say preliminary information indicates the cyclist was heading south on the sidewalk along the north lanes when he lost control and entered the road. Cobb County police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman says that he was hit by a silver 2006 Nissan Xterra.
The bicyclist, identified as 42-year-old Timothy Austin of Woodstock, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, 29-year-old Amanda Neill of Lilburn, was not injured.
