MOUNT AIRY -- A makeup game at Habersham Central brought historic news for the Mountain View boys basketball program.
The Bears defeated Habersham 69-48 on Wednesday and earned their first-ever region victory since moving to the state's highest classification prior to the 2010-11 season. They are now 3-20 overall this season and 1-14 in difficult Region 7-AAAAAA.
Michael Jenkins scored 16 points to lead Mountain View, which also got 15 points from Wil Hartter and 13 points from Andre Joseph.
GIRLS TENNIS
Mountain View 4, Central Gwinnett 1
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Courtney Conley and Jennifer Pham won at the top two singles spots as Mountain View's girls tennis team opened its season with a 4-1 victory Wednesday over Central Gwinnett.
The Bears also swept the doubles points, including a win at No. 1 doubles by Allison Pham and Rose Moody. Emily Lopez and Taylor Mayo earned the point at No. 2 doubles.
Central's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Asmoni Simmons notched a victory.
Collins Hill 3, Parkview 2
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Drew Banta and Emily Wang won at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots Wednesday as Collins Hill opened the girls tennis season with a 3-2 win over Parkview.
The Eagles' other point came from a victory at No. 1 doubles from Jamie Lunceford and Amanda Gautreaux.
BOYS TENNIS
Collins Hill 3, Parkview 2
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill's boys tennis team opened its season with a 3-2 victory over Parkview on Wednesday.
Ian Melnik and Evan Padvorac won at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, while the Eagles got a No. 1 doubles victory from Jake Inderrieden and Marcus Maloney.
