SUWANEE — Tony Porter wouldn't say Athens, Ohio felt like home, but for the Peachtree Ridge lineman Ohio University came close.
“When they offered me early, they were a favorite in the summer,” Porter said. “I liked them, but when I went on my visit (in November) it put me over the top.”
Porter said he liked the atmosphere of the small Ohio town and the rising stature of a program which won a game at Penn State last season. And even though it's a long trip from Georgia, having family in Cincinnati and Columbus eased any concerns of isolation.
Not home, but close enough.
“It doesn't feel like home,” he said, “but it feels like a second home.”
