Greater Atlanta Christian student Daniel Johnson has signed a letter of intent with the Maryland soccer program, making him a third-generation Terrapin athlete. His grandfather played baseball and football for Maryland and his father played baseball for the Terps.
Johnson, who spent the last three years in England playing for the West Ham United Youth Soccer Academy, has returned to Georgia to complete his last year of high school at GAC. Offered a U18 Scholar with West Ham, Johnson was forced to return to the U.S. when FIFA refused to grant him the International Clearance required for a minor to play soccer in a foreign country.
Johnson is currently playing for the Georgia United Soccer Academy on the U18 United States Soccer Federation Development Academy team. Most recently, he was one of two players in Georgia and one of 36 nationwide selected for the USSF DA 2012 Fall Showcase U18 All-Star team. Prior to leaving for England in 2009, he played for the Georgia State Olympic Development Soccer Program (ODP) '95 team, on the ODP Region III '95 Soccer team and attended U14 USSF National Camps.
