Gwinnett Daily Post
TRENTON, N.J. -- Joey Haddad scored the winning goal in the third and Phoenix Coyotes prospect Louis Domingue stood tall between the pipes as the Gwinnett Gladiators knocked off the Trenton Titans 3-2 Wednesday night at the Sun National Bank Center.
Defenseman Sacha Guimond rifled a shot in from the far point that Haddad managed to deflect past Titans goalie Scott Wedgewood at 12:37 of the third to give Gwinnett (29-18-2-1) a 3-1 lead. The eventual game-winning tally was also assisted by Alex Belzile, but Trenton (18-23-3-3) managed to cut the lead in half just seven seconds later.
Mike Ullrich led an odd-man rush right off the following faceoff and beat Domingue from close-in to make it 3-2. The Gladiators hung on the rest of the way, however, and Domingue made 29 stops to help the Gladiators gain ground in the South Division race for first on idle Greenville.
Scott Arnold tapped in the lone goal of the first period to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. Forward Andy Brandt generated a couple of shots from the far side on Wedgewood and Arnold was ready at the near post when the rebound squirted free for his fourth goal of the season at 15:20.
Trenton drew even just 2:12 into the second period, Gwinnett jumped back ahead at 7:53.
After a flurry of chances and a delayed penalty call on the Titans, Cody Brookwell stepped into a slap shot from the far point that beat a screen Wedgewood to make it a 2-1 game. Arnold and Jason Clark had the assists.
The Gladiators remain on the road with a game at Wheeling tonight at 7 p.m.
