LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett 4-H Horse Club competed recently in the State Horse Quiz Bowl contest.
The teams competed in a "Jeopardy!" Style contest consisting of questions in all areas of equine study, which involved months of practice and memorization.
Junior Team Green, which consisted of elementary and middle school-aged children, was undefeated and own first place out of 33 teams. They included Andrea Gonzalez, Sabrina Sailer, Cassie Scott, Killian Mullen, Sarah Kearns and Kylie Adams.
Senior Team Green placed second out of 17 other teams in the contest and earned the right to compete in a national competition in the fall. They included Samantha Sailer, Caroline Hinton, Mallory Huff, Nathaniel Hinton and Mary Cate Marchert.
Vaccination clinic is Saturday
SUWANEE -- The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting a vaccination clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1175 Buford Highway, Suite 109, Suwanee.
Canine and feline rabies shots are $10; canine and feline distemper shots are $10; canine bordetella shots, $10; canine heartworm test, $25; microchip, $25; and combo test, $25.
The organization asks that all dogs be on a leash and all cats be inside a carrier. If your animal has had an allergic reaction to vaccinations in the past, the organization recommends that you see your regular veterinarian.
All proceeds from the clinic will go to help save the lives of homeless animals in Georgia.
Genealogical Society meeting is Tuesday
WINDER -- The East Georgia Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Special Collections Room at Piedmont Regional Library on Belview Street in Winder.
The program is entitled "Sharing Our Tips and Tools for Family History Research." Each attendee is asked to bring a tip or tool that they have used in their research. Visitors don't have to be members to attend.
