Ele Wayne Otwell, Jr. passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013, in his home in Snellville, Ga. He was 100 years old. Wayne was born on January 19, 1913, in Rosefield, La., to E. W. Otwell, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Ziegler of Fort Necessity, LA. He was the fifth of seven children. Prior to moving to Georgia in 2006, he lived in Natchitoches, La. for 60 years with his wife Katharine Hedgepeth Otwell, who preceded him in death.Wayne was also preceded in death by both his parents and by his 4 brothers and 2 sisters. While in Natchitoches, he was employed as Office Manager by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company for over 30 years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church. Wayne was also very active in the Lions Club where he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions International Foundation for “dedicated humanitarian services.” Affectionally known as “Papaw,” he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: John Wayne and Kaye Seal Otwell, of Snellville, GA, and Harold Vernon and Dianne Buckner Otwell, of Dunwoody, GA, three grandsons: Christopher Aaron (Michele) Otwell, Wesley Ryan (Allison) Otwell, and John Bradley Otwell, and one great granddaughter, Ginger Kackovick Otwell, as well as five nieces and seven nephews. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 10, at 3:00 pm in the Upper Room of First United Methodist Church, 395 West Crogan Street, Lawrenceville, GA. Rev. Dianne Otwell will officiate. Visitation will follow the service. Interment of the remains will occur in the spring at the Cook Cemetery of Ruston, LA. If desired, donations may be made to your local chapter of the Lions Club for their Eye Foundation.
