Collins Hill's ninth-grade girls basketball team won the Region 7-AAAAAA Gwinnett County freshman championship this week with a 41-30 win over Norcross in the finals.
Aja Young scored 22 points to lead the short-handed Eagles, who were reduced to six players because of injuries. Jaimie Hoover added 11 points for the victors, while Lyricka Holloman led Norcross with 16 points.
Collins Hill made 8 of 12 free throws in the game's closing moments to avenge its only loss, a 39-37 setback vs. Norcross in early January.
The Eagles (17-1) also got key minutes from Clarlese Hobdy, Sydney Brown, Briun Brown and Jaelin White in the championship game. Kyra Dixon, Brianna Grisby-Richie and Jazmin Smith missed the finals with injuries.
The team is coached by Ashley Watson.
