WINDER -- The Winder Police Department is gearing up for another session of its citizens police academy.
The 18th session of the academy -- which is open to all interested, not just residents of Winder -- is scheduled to begin on March 19. Participants will attend classes every Tuesday for 12 weeks to learn about the department and receive hands-on instruction in topics including traffic stops, building clearing, firearms training, search and seizure, courtroom testimony and crime scene processing.
Anyone interested in attending must submit an application, which can be found at cityofwinder.com or picked up in person at the Winder Police Department. Participants must also submit to a criminal history check and background check in order to be accepted.
Classes will be held each Tuesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
For more information, call Officer Chris Wigner at 770-867-2156. The Winder Police Department is located at 94 N. Broad St.
