PREP ROUNDUP: Lanier girls move into tie for first in Region 8A-AAAA

COVINGTON -- Lanier topped Eastside 48-45 on Friday night to move into a three-way tie for first place in subregion 8A-AAAA on Friday night.

The win, which was the fifth in a row for Lanier (9-13, 5-1), gave the Longhorns the best mark in the region along with Madison County and Chestatee.

Shelby Threlkeld led Lanier with 15 points, while Lauren Brown scored 11. Brown also hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 left to break a tied game and put Lanier up for good.

Taylor-Rose Gibson-Green added 15 rebounds and eight points for Lanier, while Amber Cesair had six points and six assists.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North 58, Mill Creek 31

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett celebrated senior night with a 58-31 win over Mill Creek in Region 7-AAAAAA action on Friday night.

Lexie Brown just missed a triple-double for North (21-1, 14-1) with 15 points, nine steals and eight assists. Peyton Whitted also scored 15 points, while Joshlyn Belcher added 13 points.

Mill Creek (13-11, 9-6) was led by 15 points and six rebounds from Meredith Schulte, while Paige Orangio and Malayshia George each finished with five points and three rebounds.

Mountain View 59,Collins Hill 34

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View picked up a win in Region 7-AAAAAA play on Friday night by beating Collins Hill 59-34.

Kelsey Hutchins led the Bears (14-7, 6-7) with 18 points, while Bria Virgil added 12 points.

Collins Hill (6-17, 2-12) was led by 11 points from Julianne Bayer. Brittany Stowers added 12 rebounds and six points for the Eagles, while Madison McAfee finished with six points, three rebounds and three assists.

Duluth 64, Meadowcreek 18

NORCROSS -- Duluth improved to 16-7 overall and 10-4 in Region 7-AAAAAA with a 64-18 win over Meadowcreek on Friday night.

Aliyah McGriff led the Wildcats with 21 points. Jazmyn Johnson followed with 15 points, while Taylor Auzenne added 10 points.

Meadowcreek dropped to 4-18 overall and 1-13 in the region.

Parkview 62, Shiloh 33

SNELLVILLE -- Parkview ran its unbeaten record to 23-0 overall and 14-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA with a 62-33 win over Shiloh.

Genesis Perrymond was the top scorer for Parkview with 11 points, while Makenna Pouengue added 10 points. Vicky Harris, Bernice McGriff and Kristie Derouen also added eight points each.

Shiloh (1-17, 1-12) was led by 14 points, five steals and four rebounds from Bria Ratliff. Davida White added eight points and two steals, while Brooklyn Smith finished with five steals, four rebounds and two points for the Generals.

Brookwood 61, Grayson 31

SNELLVILLE -- Senior night turned out to a be a good night for Brookwood on Friday as the Broncos topped Grayson 61-31 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Rebecca Walker led Brookwood (15-9, 9-6) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Courtney Gardner finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Shelby Hunter added 12 points and five assists, while Nija Kurien chipped in with six points and five steals.

Grayson (4-17, 1-12) received six points each from Michelle Akolade, Courtney Deckard and Jessica Ewing.

Central 53, South 36

SNELLVILLE -- Central Gwinnett spoiled South Gwinnett's senior night with a 53-36 win over the Comets.

South, which fell to 13-10 overall and 8-6 in Region 8-AAAAAA, was led by 12 points from Arielle Harvey.

Alexandra Frazier led all players with 19 points to lead Central (14-8, 8-6), while Jackie Finnegan helped with eight points. Frazier also added eight rebounds, five steals and three assists, while Lexus Travis grabbed seven rebounds.

GAC 48, Westminster 17

NORCROSS -- Brianna Cummings and Sydni Means of Greater Atlanta Christian each scored 14 points on Friday night to lead the Spartans over Westminster 48-17.

The win improved GAC to 17-6 overall and 5-2 in Region 6-AA.

Wesleyan 80, Hapeville Charter 20

UNION CITY -- Wesleyan received points from 13 different players on Friday night as the Wolves rolled to an 80-20 win over Hapeville Charter in a Region 6-AA game.

Kendra Talley had 10 points for Wesleyan (20-4, 7-0), while Lauren Frerking followed with nine points. CaraMia Tsirigos led the team in rebounds with nine.

Providence 44, Prince Ave. 33

BOGART -- Jessie Kowalewicz logged 19 points and four assists on Friday night in helping Providence to a 44-33 win over Prince Avenue in Region 8B-A.

Aubrey Gold also helped the Storm (14-6, 9-1) with 13 points and seven rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Meadowcreek 55, Duluth 54

NORCROSS -- Adrian Hicks of Meadowcreek scored 18 points on Friday night in helping the Mustangs edge Duluth 55-54 in a Region 7-AAAAAA battle.

Austin Robinson and Jonathan Jones each added 12 points for Meadowcreek (7-16, 5-9), while center Jaylon Grace had six blocks, eight rebounds and four assists.

Duluth fell to 13-11 overall and 4-10 in the region.

Collins Hill 70, Mountain View 57

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill hit 10 3-pointers on Friday night as the Eagles pulled away for a 70-57 win over Mountain View in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Devin Mitchell led Collins Hill (16-7, 10-4) with 18 points and 10 assists, while Awbrey Rucker hit four 3-pointers en route to a 14-point night. Eric Ambrosio also chipped in with 13 points and four assists.

Mountain View, which hit 11 treys on the night, was led by 19 points each from Michael Jenkins and Andre Joseph. The Bears fell to 2-19 overall and 1-12 in the region.

Shiloh 55, Parkview 34

SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh enjoyed a balanced attack on offense Friday night as the Generals downed Parkview 55-34 in a Region 8-AAAAAA contest.

Nate Mason had 13 points and three assists for Shiloh (17-5, 11-2), while Evyn Smith added eight points and five assists. Center Trayvon Reed also had 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Parkview slipped to 3-20 overall and 1-13 with the loss.

Grayson 45, Brookwood 33

SNELLVILLE -- Grayson trailed 12-2 after the first quarter against Brookwood, but rallied to come back and top the Broncos 45-33 on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Pierre Mason led the charge for the Rams (12-10, 5-8) with 15 points, while Damian Young added 10 rebounds and four steals.

Brookwood fell to 16-8 overall and 8-7 in the region.

Central 42, South 34

SNELLVILLE -- Central Gwinnett led the entire night and held on for a 42-34 win over South Gwinnett on Friday.

Shaun Jones led Central (11-12 overall, 5-9 Region 8-AAAAAA) with 11 points, while Kyle Wright South (9-14, 5-9) with 12 points.

North 59, Mill Creek 47

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett built a 35-17 halftime lead and went on to win 59-47 over Mill Creek on Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA.

T.J. Howard logged 22 points and five assists to lead North (18-5, 12-3), while Owen Lewis recorded 14 rebounds and 11 points. Ahmad Caver also helped in the win with nine rebounds and five assists.

Elijah Bryant scored 19 to lead Mill Creek (15-9, 8-7), while Trevon Shaw scored 11.

Apalachee 91, Monroe Area 60

WINDER -- Apalachee improved to 15-6 on Friday night with a 91-60 win over Monroe Area.

Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led by 17 points and 13 rebounds from Cameron Blakley. Kamar Baldwin added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Rakim Peters chipped in 10 points.

Lanier 63, Eastside 59

COVINGTON -- Lanier posted its third straight win by beating Eastside 63-59 on Friday night in Region 8A-AAAA.

Jordan Harper hit 9 of 12 shots from the field to finish with 24 points and three assists for Lanier (14-9, 5-1), while Paul Webb finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

GAC 69, Westminster 34

NORCROSS -- Troy Morrison led all players with 17 points on Friday night to help give Greater Atlanta Christian a 69-34 win over Westminster.

GAC bumped its record up to 21-3 overall and 7-0 in Region 6-AA.

Hapeville 62, Wesleyan 58

UNION CITY -- Wesleyan received 32 points from Will Clifton, but the Wolves couldn't get over the hump as Hapeville Charter held on for a 62-58 win over Wesleyan on Friday night.

Wesleyan slipped to 9-14 overall and 2-5 in Region 6-AA.

George Walton 53, Hebron 46

DACULA -- Hebron's Tyler Matthews put up 19 points on Friday night, but the Lions came up shy in a 53-46 loss to George Walton Academy.

Hebron dropped to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in Region 8B-A.
