LILBURN -- One Gwinnett city will kick off its challenge to join the fight against cancer at an upcoming event.
The ninth annual Lilburn Relay Rally is coming up in April, so leaders are holding a planning session at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at City Hall.
The rally, scheduled for April 26, is the city's own Relay for Life event, which is forwarded to the county's annual event in May to support the American Cancer Society's research and awareness programs to battle cancer. The city fundraiser was founded by the Lilburn Woman's Club and the government to provide local support to the Gwinnett Relay for Life event, one of the largest in the world.
Organizers are encouraging groups to begin their own fundraising teams now. Business or community organizations can form teams of five or more and sign up at www.lilburnrelayrally.org.
For those without a team, the ladies from the GFWC Lilburn Woman's Club invite you to join their "Women in Action" team by registering online at the website.
The April city event includes an opening ceremony, cancer survivor's lap, luminaria ceremony and live music. Organizers are seeking sponsorships.
For more information or to sponsor the event, contact Relay Rally Co-Chair Gail Zarnik at gailz18@aol.com or 770-982-9828.
